In 2017 I started my search for mothers and daughters that where close to me. This search originated from my own relationship with my mother. Our bond is very strong, past events have made our bond grow enormously. I was particularly curious about how this would develop with other mother and daughter couples. What kind of mutual bond do they have with each other and what events created this bond?
For De Kracht van Rotterdam, I was commissioned to expand my research to the Hillegersberg-Schiebroek neighborhoods. Young adult daughters are developing theirself continuesly and are working on their own identity. The role of the mother is an important aspect in this exploration and can also influence the development from girl to woman. Before I start photographing the women, I often have an open conversation with the couples. From these conversations, I extract important quotes or starting points to use during my photo project. Under these photographs I let them write something that describes their bond between each other.
